The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Deuteronomy 33:27a
In 1991, I began designing my own cross stitch patterns as a hobby, mainly converting photographs of places that were special to me and my husband, Rick; and, through the years the dream was born to share my patterns with others. Even though I knew my special places wouldn't have the same sentimental attraction to others, I hoped their beauty would "speak" to others in ways that would grow to be special to them. My dream became a reality in July, 2001 at the INRG Needlework Market in Charlotte, NC, where I "opened the doors" of Beautiful Threads Needlework Designs.
I know everyone isn't a landscape or large design enthusiast, so I decided to design some flower, kaleidoscope, and quilt block patterns to give my portfolio some diversity in size and stitching difficulty. Much to my surprise, the landscapes have been my best sellers, so I'm concentrating more of my efforts on them rather than the smaller pieces. This means I won't have as many new pieces coming out at each show as some of the other designers, but I will continue to strive for the very best landscapes I can. In February 2002, after much work, and a lot more time than I ever dreamed would be necessary, I finally was able to begin marketing the Needlepoint line that was promised to be soon coming at the Charlotte Market. I have only been working with needlepoint for about 8 months, so I have much to learn first but I have a new dream - doing landscapes with specialty fibers and stitches to produce more of a 3D appearance than cross stitch can offer. Each art form has wonderful attributes: cross stitch has a larger variety of colors; whereas, needlepoint offers many more texture possibilities. I'm really anxious to try some ideas that are churning in my mind! Happy stitching and may God bless you! Glenna
